CIABA – Brazilian Merchant Marine Academy of Pará – Do you know it?

Do you know where brazilian Merchant Marine Officers and Engineers are graduated? In this post you can see CIABA (Centro de Instrução Almirante Bráz de Aguiar), the first Merchant Marine Academy founded in Brazil, located in the Amazon region.

We have today in Brazil two academies, CIABA and CIAGA (at Rio de Janeiro).

Centro de Instrução Almirante Braz de Aguiar (CIABA) is too old and traditional. Its history calls back to the old Engineers Training nad Deck Officer Training, that had been created in 1892, by the President of Republic, Floriano Peixoto.

The first building had been stabilished in the old Navy Shpyard Inspectors Office. Today this biulding is the headquarters of the 4th Naval District at Belém, State of Pará, up on North of Brazil in the Amazon Region.

At 1907, new courses were created (Campboss and Radio Officers) and then the Brazilian Merchant Marine Academy of Pará has started as an Academy.
